From Farm To Fridge

The Granville County Library System (GCLS) has partnered with local farms, farmers, organizations, groups, and food banks to address food insecurity in Granville County.  By distributing food and produce to food insecure community members, our library demonstrates what it means to provide access and essential services to those less fortunate.

At any time, refrigerators located at the South and Thornton branch libraries can be stocked with healthy choices of kale, tomatoes, avocado, onions, broccoli, carrots, yucca, eggplant—you name it!   And these items are “FREE” to anyone who has a need.

The success of “Farm to Fridge” was acknowledged by Sec. Reid Wilson of the North Carolina Department of Natural and Cultural Resources.  And the GCLS is working to facilitate deeper partnerships with our agricultural community members through information sharing and nutrition programming.  We are also seeking participation from local farmers that may be willing to partner on a project addressing food insecurity in Granville County.
