Meet the new Adult Services Librarian

Hi! My name is Melanie. I also go by Mel. My mom named me after Melanie Wilkes from Gone with the Wind. I am from Henderson originally, moved to Ann Arbor, MI for about 7 years, and am now back to Henderson and excited to be working for Granville County Libraries!

I wish I had been able to meet all of you lovely patrons in person, but unfortunately we are all doing our best to slow the spread of COVID19. I hope y’all are taking care during this time and I hope to be able to bring some library services to you over the internet.

Now, for a little about who I am. I’m a cat person, who pretty much loves all animals. I have two cats, Psycho and Dust Bunny. I mostly read fiction, lots of young adult and adult fantasy. My most recent favorite book series was the Throne of Glass novels by Sarah J. Maas. I’m a huge fan of the Fast and Furious franchise. In general I like action, adventure, comic book, comedies, sci-fi, and fantasy movies. I recently got into anime TV shows, even though I’ve been a lifelong Miyazaki fan, and my two favorites are Black Clover and Fairy Tail. I’m also into cosplay and have an Asta (Black Clover), Roadhog (Overwatch), Wendy (Fairy Tail), Ariel (Little Mermaid), and Wonder Woman (Gal Gadot movies) that I’m pretty proud of completing. If you haven’t noticed, I’m a pretty huge geek. I grew up playing the Legend of Zelda, my favorite is Ocarina of Time, closely followed by Breath of the Wild, Twilight Princess, Skyward Sword, Link to the Past, Link’s Awakening, and Windwaker. I also knit and am struggling to learn crochet, but I’m getting there.

I’ve been working in and around libraries since elementary school, but I truly began my career when I worked in my college library at UNCW. It was then that I decided to pursue an MLS at NCCU and eventually become a librarian. I’m super happy to be back home, and I hope to chat with y’all soon, if only from a keyboard.

If you’ve got anything you’d love for me to know, please send me a note through “Ask a Librarian” or to melanie.baldwin@granvillecounty.org.

Stay safe!

Melanie
